My (Second) Online Experience
The unexpected effect of online classes
Written by: Christian Robbie V. Billones (ITC C301)
For most of my first experience with online classes, I have had the luxury of time and space to do all my tasks on time. It was a simple cycle and habit, list the tasks, plan the tasks, and do the tasks. It was just that simple, and although it was tedious work, it was all worth it as I've learned a lot from them. I could easily say that the tasks were more than enough to engrain me with the knowledge and skill that I would need to have. With that said, I was also lucky and blessed enough to have complete control of my schedule and to follow whichever task needs priority over the other. It was a surreal experience. I was in complete control with all aspects of my academic life. Although this was true for the most part of the first semester of this school year, it was slowly turning more of a struggle this second semester; as I was now experiencing the unexpected side-effect of online classes, the unexpected health issues.
I wish someone have told me to take a break once in a while, and to spend some time with my family to de-stress. I have spent 90% of my time in the first semester heavily focused on the academic tasks I should do and achieve. I have spent more time in academic works than in my sleep during that course of time, and I didn't think there'd be any effect on it. But it did. I had developed sleeping problems during the second semester which in return, have impacted a whole lot of my performance during the online classes in the online classrooms. Online classrooms, on the other hand, have also eased some of the restrictions with regards to video conferencing and audio reactions. One of the ways this subject approached this certain problem was to enable students to respond through the chat room available in Canvas or through the chat box available in Zoom. This was extremely helpful for all of the students, especially for those who have problems with their electronic devices or from the internet connections that they currently have.
