Welcome to my introductory blog for our subject ITC C204 - 201BA!
Today, I am tasked with creating a blog for people with little to no background in programming, about Visual Basic programming and why it might be of interest to you, our dear reader, to learn Visual Basic for yourself. Visual Basic is a very simple language to learn, and it allows you dear reader to develop an application in just a few hours, and even to within an hour if you get used to it!
Creating a new program in Visual Studio is very easy. Simply select [Create a new project] on the right selection and a new screen will show. You can use the three filters on the upper right to select [Visual Basic] [Windows] and [Desktop] to narrow down the options that are shown to you, and select [Windows Forms App] to create your very first Visual Basic Program!
From here, you are presented the Visual Basic Development Environment, and your first form, which you will be adding to your heart's pleasure, Textboxes, Labels, Buttons and many other controls for your application. This also presents Visual Basic's strength over other programming languages: it is very easy to design the exact appearance of your program, since you are drawing on your form the items you want, without having to write lines of code.
You can get started right now, and most importantly, for free, simply by going to Microsoft's Visual Studio website and downloading the latest Community Edition version. There are also numerous online resources for learning how to code in VB, and it is far simpler than most other programming languages as well.
